Last week, we had the opportunity to attend the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2026 held in Vienna, Austria. The conference brought together researchers and scientists from around the world to discuss recent advances in geosciences and related disciplines.
The meeting covered a wide range of topics, including natural hazards, volcanology, atmospheric sciences, atmospheric chemistry, geochemistry, and many other Earth science fields. The event provided an excellent platform for scientific exchange, collaboration, and discussions on current challenges in Earth and environmental sciences.
Among the highlights of the conference was a presentation by Prof. Catherine Meriaux, Director of East African Institute of Fundamental Research, on 3D numerical simulations of lava dome growth and the processes controlling dome collapse, depressurization, and explosive volcanic hazards. It was also a great honor to witness Giovanni Chiodini receive a medal in recognition of his enormous contributions to the field of volcanology. We sincerely thank the FEF-R KIGASA project and the French Embassy in Rwanda for supporting our participation in this important international conference.
