On 18 February 2026, the symposium on natural hazards modelling in Rwanda concluded with rich exchanges between scientists, institutions, and policymakers.
Throughout the day, discussions focused on how modelling tools can better support preparedness, risk understanding, and coordinated responses to hazards affecting the region. The exchanges also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between research communities and public agencies.
We thank the organizers, speakers, and partners — including the East African Institute for Fundamental Research, the UNESCO IGCP programme, the French Embassy, the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST), and the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) — for contributing to this important dialogue.
Here are a few moments from the symposium.
