Our field trip to Western Rwanda aimed to understand Podoconiosis, a neglected tropical disease. Through extensive soil sampling and site visits, we explored diverse areas, investigating how volcanic ash and soil composition can relate to this health condition. Our findings linked volcanic activity and soil erosion to areas with high Podoconiosis prevalence. This collaborative effort with local authorities and healthcare professionals establishes a foundation for ongoing research and support for those impacted. Collaborating with medical and community health experts, we wish to develop strategies to identify and assist affected individuals. download the field trip summary here
